Good for you Tracey. I've been sober for 16 years, meth & alcohol were my drugs of choice. We are miracles!

DeleteHi Tracey! I just bought your book and it's great. I actually read your AMA and watched Black Tar on YouTube during a slow work day, and you really are an inspiration. I'm from Long Island and went to school in New Paltz, in the middle of the Catskills, and heroin really doesn't discriminate. Rich, poor, smart, etc., everyone is being affected in places I thought no one would use heroin. I lived with a serious heroin addict in New Paltz and he died shortly after graduation in 2012. He was sweet but so lost when sober, however, he was very difficult while on heroin and/or other opioids. It was like Jekyll and Hyde. He asked other people to try heroin--some that have never even smoked pot--and I hated him for being sick. As someone that has never tried heroin, I didn't believe people my age were actually doing it. I just didn't understand. I later found out his parents took him out of rehab to "keep up appearances" and expected him to finish college. He was in no shape to be in school.
ReplyDeleteNew Paltz is also very small compared to San Francisco, but we had "stoop people" and students nodding off in public. You really reminded me of my friends that are so smart, but were so depressed as a young adult. Thank you for your story. Sorry if this was long!
No not too long at all. I actually coming up to Woodstock NY next weekend for a presentation. I am super curious about life there: all I have ever seen is NYC. Thanks for supporting my work!
DeleteAnd I noticed on your blog profile where it used to say mother, recovering addict, now there is a "wife" in ther... I might have just missed it before but if not congrats!
ReplyDeleteI've been married since 2006 but we've been together since 2000
DeleteUm, guess you won't be coming through Oklahoma, lol. But I will catch ya in Dallas if ya ever tour it down this way. We need your magic in OK. I am here to tell you and the world that this state is about to go up in fire. #1 RX Narcotics abuse in the US per capita and they are now cracking down hard...combine that with the I-35 corridor coming right through the middle of the state and OKC itself... As to why it hasn't taken hold yet, I will never know, but it will.
